+ What is FST? |
FST or Fascial Stretch Therapy is a research-based recovery system focused on improving flexibility through mobilization of the fascia, the connective tissue system that wraps the muscles, nerves, and organs of the body. Because the fascia runs in sheets throughout the body, resolving immobility is key to treating a variety of modern conditions from plantar fasciitis to headaches to chronic pain. + Will it hurt? |
FST works on a system of stretch awareness levels, so you will feel the tissue lengthen and open, but should never feel pain. Even "good pain," which many manual therapists rely on, actually causes muscles to contract to protect themselves resulting in a sub-optimal treatment. |
+ What will my session be like? |
AssessSessions will begin with a few questions about injuries, activities, and lifestyle - along with a postural assessment from standing and lying positions. Your personal stretch therapists will check for areas of tightness, overcompensation, and imbalance. StrechYou will lie down on a plush massage table and your therapist will get to work stretching to find and release tension. The table has specially designed padded straps, that the therapist may use to help stabilize and isolate to deepen the stretch. We'll check in often to make sure everything is feeling good. ResetWe'll close out the session by performing some proprioceptive feedback work so you don't walk out of a session too loose. RebuildThroughout the assessment and session, your therapist has been identifying areas of opportunity for strengthening that will work to prevent the tension from returning. Depending on the length of your session, we may want to spend some time showing you some excercises targeting underperforming muscle groups that you can do at home. |
+ Is it a workout? |
FST is not a workout, so you can lay back and relax as we work. We may incorporate some pilates into your treatment however as a complementary modality to help work on areas that are underutilized to achieve a balanced body. |
+ What do I wear? |
Anything soft and comfortable. |
+ How often should I get my FST? |
Weekly or bi-weekly as we work on acute and chronic issues to get you pain-free, then a monthly visit thereafter. Think of it as a maintenance visit to ensure your body is balanced and aligned. |
+ What sets V+V apart? |
CustomizedEach session will be customized to what your body needs that day. We will never go through the motions and do the same routine over and over. We will listen to the tissue and spend time where you need it most. Strain-FreeYour safety is our number one priority. A skilled stretch therapist will never need to bring you into pain to help you recover. Pushing past stretch awareness into the pain zone causes muscles to tense preventing deeper access to the area of tension and can cause tears to the muscle and nerve irritation. Your session should feel good and be effective. Short and Long-Term RecoveryWe want to help you through your current pain and tension, and teach you stretches/ excercises to do at home that will prevent future injury. Unlike other manual therapies, you don't have to come back constantly to benefit. You'll see results after a single session. |
